Call4me ChatGPT Plugin Lets AI Make Phone Calls for You

A developer released Call4me, a ChatGPT plugin that enables the AI to place phone calls on the user's behalf. The plugin connects ChatGPT to telephony APIs, allowing it to dial numbers and conduct voice conversations. This extends ChatGPT from text and voice chat into real-world task execution, such as booking appointments or making inquiries. The project was shared on Hacker News, where it received minimal initial engagement but highlights growing interest in AI agents that act autonomously.

Vespper Spends $15K Benchmarking 5 DOCX-Editing Approaches on Harvey LAB

Vespper spent $15,000 benchmarking five different DOCX-editing approaches on Harvey LAB, a legal AI platform. The company published the results on its blog, detailing which methods performed best for tasks like contract review and document generation. The benchmark is notable because DOCX editing remains a major pain point for legal AI tools, which must preserve complex formatting while making precise edits. Vespper's findings could influence how developers build document automation for law firms and other enterprises.

Nvidia Backs European AI Startups That Spend the Cash on Nvidia Chips

Nvidia has been funding European AI startups through its venture arm, but those startups are using the investment to purchase Nvidia GPUs. This creates a circular flow where Nvidia's capital returns to Nvidia as revenue. The dynamic raises questions about whether these investments are genuine bets on European innovation or a strategy to lock in customers and inflate GPU sales. European startups often lack access to alternative chip suppliers, making Nvidia the default choice.

LitPivot Tool Dynamically Contextualizes Research Ideas in Literature

LitPivot is a new tool that helps researchers develop research ideas by dynamically contextualizing them within the existing literature landscape. It likely analyzes a user's seed idea and maps it against relevant papers, identifying gaps and connections. This addresses the challenge of staying on top of proliferating publications and finding novel angles. The tool could streamline the ideation phase of research, making it faster and more systematic. It may be particularly useful for early-career researchers or those entering new fields.

Multi-Agent LLM Systems Prone to Herding and Runaway Cascades, Study Finds

A new arXiv paper reveals that multi-agent systems built on large language models are vulnerable to herding behavior and runaway cascades, where agents amplify each other's errors. The research shows that when agents share information, small mistakes can propagate rapidly, leading to system-wide failures. This challenges the assumption that multi-agent collaboration inherently improves reliability. The findings have implications for anyone deploying LLM-based agents in critical applications, from customer service to autonomous decision-making.

Altman: Advanced AI Will Escape Sandboxes, Alignment Only Fix

Sam Altman said at a recent event that advanced AI cannot be permanently contained by sandboxes or monitoring, calling them temporary fixes. He argued that alignment—making AI systems reliably pursue intended goals—is the only long-term solution, but remains unsolved. Altman also warned that AI models are already discovering hardware security flaws that human hackers would miss, signaling capabilities that outpace containment. His comments shift the focus from containment to alignment research as the critical path for safe AI deployment.

New SpectralCanary Method Audits T2I Training Data via Low-Freq Traces

Researchers Sy-Tuyen Ho, Anirudh Satheesh, and Soham Chawathe proposed SpectralCanary, a method that plants a shared low-frequency signal in an image dataset before release to audit whether a text-to-image model was fine-tuned on it. The technique detects collection-level visual characteristics that models absorb without reproducing exact training images, making traditional auditing ineffective. By analyzing low-frequency traces, SpectralCanary offers a simple way to verify dataset usage after the fact. This addresses a growing need for transparency as T2I models are increasingly trained on proprietary or sensitive image collections.

Brain Organoids Power Robot Decision-Making in New BioRxiv Study

A new preprint on bioRxiv demonstrates that lab-grown human brain organoids can be used for robotic decision-making. The research, which appeared on Hacker News, shows how neural cultures can interface with robotic systems to perform simple tasks. This represents a step toward biological computing, where living neurons serve as components in engineered systems. The work is still in early stages, with no peer review yet, but it opens a novel direction for AI hardware.

AI Agents Overload Web Infrastructure, Causing Site Failures

A wave of autonomous AI agents crawling and interacting with websites has disrupted internet infrastructure, according to a report by Jacob G. The agents, which operate continuously and at scale, are overwhelming servers and causing site failures. This marks a shift from traditional bots, as AI agents can make decisions and adapt, making them harder to block. The incident highlights the growing strain AI automation places on public web resources.

Developer Flips LLM Chat Template to Simulate User Replies

A developer built a tool called SelfGPT that runs an LLM chat template in reverse, making the model play the user instead of the assistant. The project, hosted at selfgpt.pages.dev, was shared on Hacker News. By swapping roles, the LLM generates user-side messages, which could be used to test conversational agents or generate synthetic dialogue. The approach highlights how chat templates can be repurposed beyond their intended use, opening new possibilities for prompt engineering and model evaluation.
