Silicon Compiler Returns as AI Agent Factory, Says Substack Author

Brian Roemmele argues in a Substack post that the 'silicon compiler' concept from the 1980s is making a comeback, now reborn as an AI agent factory. The original silicon compiler automated chip design by turning high-level descriptions directly into silicon layouts; Roemmele says AI agents can now do the same for software and hardware workflows. He contends that instead of hand-coding every step, developers will soon assemble teams of specialized AI agents that compile intent into working systems. The idea is early-stage and speculative, but it points to a shift from AI as a tool to AI as an autonomous production line.
